Discover snowmobiling this winter
The arrival of snow doesn't mean you have to lock yourself up inside for the winter months. Bundle up, get outdoors and participate in an activity that 3 million people enjoy each year—snowmobiling.

Snowmobiling allows you to create unforgettable memories with family and friends while escaping the demands of everyday life. In fact, 95 percent of snowmobile enthusiasts consider snowmobiling a family lifestyle activity. Snowmobiling is one of the easiest recreational lifestyle activities to learn, making it suitable for all ages.

There are 230,000 miles of groomed and marked snowmobile trails that wind through beautiful scenery throughout North America. This amounts to more miles of snowmobile trails than in the entire U.S. interstate highway system. 80 percent of snowmobilers use the abundance of trails to explore their surroundings in a way that can only be experienced from a snowmobile.

Try renting a snowmobile if you think the activity complements your family's interests. Many ski resorts across North America now offer snowmobile renting, along with all the gear necessary to hit the trails and have some fun. These resorts are discovering that snowmobiling is one of the most popular activities. There are also plenty of rental facilities nearby snow-covered groomed trails throughout the country to consider.
Snowmobiling industry experiences growth in 2008
Activity generates $27 billion worth of economic activity in North America per year

Every year, snowmobiling generates $27 billion worth of economic activity in North America. The snowmobiling industry is a favorite winter recreation activity in North America, and it continues to grow.

In 2008, more snowmobilers went snowmobiling than any year before, and there are now more registered snowmobiles this year than in 2007. Registered snowmobiles in the United States increased 2.6 percent, despite the challenging economy. There are also over 708,000 registered snowmobiles in Canada, 1.5 percent increase over 2007.

Snowmobilers' level of activity is also rising. Miles ridden by snowmobilers in North America jumped 17 percent in 2008 over 2007, with the average snowmobiler riding over 1,040 miles last winter. The spike in activity increased tourism-related expenditures and traffic.
Safe Riders! Materials
The snowmobiling season is quickly approaching and the snowmobile manufacturers are pleased to again be supporting and sponsoring the "Safe Riders! You Make Snowmobiling Safe" safety campaign. "Safe Riders!" offers various materials including snowmobiling fact books, safety related posters, decals and a safety video. The fact books are eagerly picked up by snowmobile enthusiasts and others interested in learning about snowmobiling and the snowmobile community. The posters are professionally printed, often framed and put on display in lobbies, offices, restaurants and hotels across the snowbelt of North America. Copies of these popular materials can be obtained free of charge (while supplies last) from the ISMA office (517.339.7788). Click here to obtain an order form.
Make it snow!
The International Snowmobiling Manufacturers Association (ISMA) released a Snow Dance video on the Internet. The Snow Dance shown in the video is designed to make it snow, thus hastening the arrival of the snowmobiling season.

The new Snow Dance video features a mom, dad and their two teenage children singing and dancing around four snowmobiles. In the video, there is no snow on the ground but it is obvious this avid snowmobiling family really wants it to snow.

The video has been posted on www.gosnowmobiling.org. The link to the Web site video has been sent to the presidents of all snowmobile associations, organizations, federations and clubs for distribution to their members. In addition, the video has been posted on YouTube.
